JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Attorney Carlos Moore has formally appealed a federal judge's decision to dismiss his lawsuit against the Mississippi state flag.

Moore, from Grenada, filed the lawsuit earlier this year, naming Governor Phil Bryant and seeking the removal of the current state flag from all public display in the state. The lawsuit asserted the state flag violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment. Moore also said the state flag is state approved discrimination and says it's actually causing him physical injury.

"My health has been affected. My hypertension has been worsened, it's been exasperated, my insomnia, as well as my heart rate is abnormal," Moore explained.

Moore said his injuries worsened after seeing racially motivated events like the vandalism of James Meredith Statue and the South Carolina killings.

Judge Carlton Reeves did not find Moore to have standing in the case and formally dismissed the lawsuit earlier this month.

We will have much more on this later today.
