Celebrity "Chef Jet" demonstrates healthy cooking at St. Andrews

RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

St. Andrew's Episcopal School kids in Ridgeland put down their pencils and picked up their forks Thursday.

Celebrity Chef Jet Tila has appeared on Food Network shows like Chopped and Cutthroat Kitchen. He was serving up a message about healthy eating on his first visit to the Magnolia State with his signature pineapple fried rice dish.

"Yeah, I think it's amazing, uh, the takeaway for me is really being able to meet all the kids and how much we affect them on TV," said Tila.

"And so, it's just part of our commitment to  provide really healthy meals to our kids and get them on board and committed to what they're eating and how it affects their body and their performance in the classroom as well as on the fields," said Christy DeLaughter, director of St. Andrews health and wellness.

"I'm gonna go, uh, buy some pineapples and, you know, make some fried rice and cook for my family for once," said St. Andrews student Payton Seago.

Students also competed for special "Chef Jet" and Food Network swag.
