Special Operations Group busts drug operation and possible dog fighting ring

NATCHEZ, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

On Monday, a patrol deputy arrested someone who also had information on ongoing crimes.

After Special Operations Group interviewed this individual, police went to the home of John Adams, aka Johnny Pigg, in Natchez. Inside the home, officers found stolen property, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and surveillance equipment. Adams was arrested and booked in the Adams County Jail.

Later that evening, agents arrested a man named Michael Johnson who had Xanax, methamphetamine and a loaded weapon, which was had been stolen out of a car in Natchez Mall Parking Lot. Johnson had just been to Justice Court earlier that day on more drug charges and is now being held without bond.

Agents went back to Johnson’s home on Government Fleet Road where they found several people at his home. They also found another loaded gun, drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine inside.

On Thursday, members of the Special Response Team executed an early morning search warrant at 8 ½ Pogo Street in Natchez. Inside this house, police found two men identified as Carlos Owens and Derrick Owens.

During the search police seized almost 2 pounds of marijuana, synthetic marijuana, over 40 grams of cocaine, 57 Alprazolam, 21 Lortabs, scales, baggies, packing material, 2 loaded pistols, 1 loaded rifle, surveillance equipment, 2 vehicles, $1,670.00 and other misc items.

Deputy Karen Ewing was called because there were items found that raised concern that the six pitbulls in the yard were being trained to fight.

The deputy removed the dogs from the environment and is going to charge Carlos and Derrick Owens with the appropriate charges. All of this happened within 1500 feet of a church.

These men could face more than 30 years if found guilty of the charges.
