The sign on the Fannie Lou Hamer Library on Albermarle Road says it all.
The library closing its doors on September 30th due to a lack of funds.
The adjacent Golden Key Community Center also shutting down for the same reason.
Officials with the Jackson Hinds Library System say they would like to relocate, but the plan right now is to disperse their books to other libraries in the system.
Executive Director Patty Furr said, "We do have the Medgar Evers library which is located on Medgar Evers Boulevard which is within driving distance and I believe public transit so that's probably going to be the populations best place to go when this closes. Were very sorry it's closing but we certainly can understand the situation."
Anyone with items checked out from the library after the closure can return them to any of the other libraries in the system.
The Fannie Lou Hamer location was shut down Friday, due to city furloughs.
Library customer Maurice Pope said, "You have money for jails, but no money for libraries? And you wonder why there is a crime problem?
Pope said he will have to use the nearby Medgar Evers location.
Furr says there have been talks of opening a library in the Metrocenter Mall, but nothing is concrete.
