Saturday JSU fans experienced changes at the game.

The clear bag policy is in full effect for all Jackson State sporting venues.

Jackson State adopted the new clear bag policy and it went into effect at their game opener versus Grambling State. It's forcing fans to have to ditch some bags and pick up plastic bags.

The clear bag policy was posted to the JSU website in addition to posters around the Veterans memorial Stadium. While some say the policy came as no surprise.

"I'm kind of used to it because I go to a lot of NFL NBA games so its kind of like the same thing so it wasn't that much of a difference to me," said tailgater, James Rigdley.

Some fans were caught off guard.

"I didn't hear about it till just a few minutes ago actually. I walked up to the front just to make sure if I could bring my black purse in and he told me no," added Latrena Lewis.

For others it was an inconvenience.

"I can understand it for safety reasons, but I was a little frustrated because I didn't have a clear bag," said Davida Veckum.

Many were turned around, some left their belongings at the front entrance, but most simply took their belongings back to their vehicles.

Even though LaTrena Lewis was turned around she says since the policy is geared towards safety she's all for it.

"Everything going on in the world now, if there's something that you can use to counteract any attacks then that would be great,".

Regardless of the heightened safety measures Timothy Naylor believes people will still find ways to sneak items in.

"It's easy for somebody to go chunk something over the fence," said Naylor.

The policy is already used by NFL, NBA, and other universities across the states and is steadily increasing.
