JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson Police have ruled 49-year-old Lorenda Maxwell's death a homicide.

Maxwell was found dead inside a home on McDowell Road just after 6 a.m. on September 22.

According to the Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart, the cause of death was blood loss from sharp force injury to blood vessels.

The victim's friends said they were shocked when they learned of the death.

"Her son knocked on our door, beating on our door asking if we could come up there with him to check on his mother because she was laying in a pool of blood," said Teresa Thomas.

Thomas said she was heartbroken when she learned of her death.

"She's a caring person," added Thomas. "She will help you if she can. She's a beautiful person inside and out."

"She does have some trauma to her body," said JPD Commander Tyree Jones. "We do not know what caused the trauma to her body, so at this particular time this is being ruled a death investigation pending the outcome of an autopsy."

This is the same home where a homicide happened back in 2014,
involving a murdered family.

LaTerry Smith was found murdered in this home, where he lived with his wife and 7-year-old child. The bodies of his wife and child were found in a wooded area in Copiah County after their car was found burned nearby.

Maxwell and the victim from years past had no relation. Thomas said for now, all she can do is remember the good times.

"We sit around and talk and laugh," said Thomas. "I know she's a good person. She never did anything wrong, she doesn't bother anyone, and she's an innocent person. Whoever did this to her in her own home needs to come to justice and turn them self in so her family can rest in peace."

The Hinds County Coroner said the autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
