JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Thursday night there were more than 20 local favorite restaurants from the Metro Area, 20 different artists, a variety of animals, and live music from D Play Band, Bailey Brothers, and Mississippi Swing at the Jackson Zoo's 26th annual "Zoo Party Unleashed" fundraiser. This year's theme was the "roaring 20's" so people came dressed for a gala.

All proceeds go directly to the Jackson Zoo.

"The General Fund is where we do all of our daily operations; that covers staff, that covers animal care, veterinary care, food, water, that kind of thing," said Membership Specialist E.J. Rivers.

Tickets to the fundraiser were all-inclusive for food and drinks, but attendees brought some extra cash for other happenings at the gala.

"We've already raised over $2500 dollars just with the silent auction, so we're really excited about that this year," said Rivers before the event kicked off.

The Jackson Zoo earlier this year gave up its accreditation status after getting less money this year from the city, which means they're relying more on fundraisers like this.

But they're hoping for a successful night...especially since today is special for them.

"International World Rhino Day," said Rivers. "So we're celebrating Big Mike and Ronnie today over at the Jackson Zoo."
