ATTALA COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper was injured in a two-vehicle wreck Sunday evening on MS Highway 19, about one mile north of MS Highway 25 in Attala County.

The trooper and a 16-year-old male, driving a Chevrolet pickup, were both traveling north on MS 19.

The Trooper encountered a car traveling south that was speeding and pulled to the right shoulder of MS 19.  He was going to turn around to pull the vehicle over.

The Chevrolet truck slowed down as the trooper pulled to the shoulder.

The trooper, thinking the pickup was allowing him to turn around started his turn. The pickup hit the patrol car in the driver's side door area.

Both vehicles ended up in the roadway after impact.

The Trooper was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The 16-year-old driver was not hurt. Both were wearing their seatbelts.

Names are being with held pending notification of family.

The accident is under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
