CONSIDER THIS: Mississippi Historic Tax Credits

As we mentioned last week, the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office is launching a new bike patrol in downtown Jackson near the King Edward Hotel. And that area will not only be safer, it is going to see more economic development now that developers have finalized financing to renovate seven historical buildings into Capital Art Lofts, affordable residences and businesses for artists.

The renovation project was stalled while the state legislature debated the future of the Historic Tax Credits program. Now that the funding has been worked out, construction should begin soon.

Consider This:

Many people question the purpose of the Mississippi Historic Tax Credit program, but this project is another example of why that program is so important. If not for the tax credit initiative, this project, and other projects across the state would not move forward.

The renovations of the buildings across from the King Edward will completely transform that block. It’s another critical piece in the puzzle of Jackson’s downtown revitalization.

Thanks to the state leaders who supported the continuation of the tax credit program so this project and others can become reality.
