JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A young Madison County actress is a rising star appearing in the true story of the survivors of the Deepwater Horizon rig explosion.

Stella Allen gets plenty of screen time in a major role in the feature film. In the heart racing fact based film, Stella co-stars with a list of who's who in Hollywood from Kurt Russell to John Malkovich.

"To think that he went through this, and he's alive still," said Stella Allen.

The Ridgeland actress portrays Sydney, the daughter of Mike Williams, who survived the Deepwater Horizon explosion.

Mark Wahlerg and Kate Hudson play her parents in the feature film.

The 11 year old spent two weeks last summer filming in the Big Easy.

"We had a day where we went up to New Orleans and we sat in a room, and we all just talked. We rehearsed little things. The director really wanted us to bond and really become a family," said the budding film star.

This is Stella's fourth feature film.  She also appeared in Free State of Jones alongside Matthew McConaughey. But she was thrilled to work closely with Hudson and Wahlberg.

"Very very great role model, both of them were all of them actually," said Stella. "Something that I'm so lucky to do".

The Jackson Academy student is now being home schooled to accommodate her schedule of auditions and just last week walking the red carpet at Deepwater's premiere in New Orleans.

"Here I am. I'm in this huge movie with amazing actors and it's such a special thing, and it really just shows that you can do it if you really put hard work towards it," she added.

Deepwater Horizon opens nationwide Friday. Stella and her family will attend the special preview Thursday at the Malco Grandview in Madison.
