Rankin County Sheriff warns of jury duty scam

RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey says his office received a report Thursday of a jury duty scan.

A complainant came into the office to report that he and his parents had received a fake jury duty call by someone who had identified himself as Deputy White and tried to get them to go to the Rite Aid on McDowell Road in Jackson to get Money Pack Cards to send to pay for missing Jury Duty.

This suspect gave them a phone number 601-732-5957 which is a fake Rankin County Sheriff's Department recording.  Another elderly woman had also received a phone call from this individual.

The suspect seems to be targeting the elderly and even had their home information when he called the complainants. There is a strong possibility that a business that trades with the elderly has been hacked.

The number when called fast enough that it cannot reset will give a voicemail recording of a Verizon cell phone in Idaho.

Bailey says if you receive phone calls from anyone claiming to work for the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department who is asking you for money due to you missing Jury Duty or for any other reason, please contact us at 601-825-1480 and report this FRAUD to us.

Bailey also says PLEASE DO NOT GET A MONEY CARD AND GIVE THE NUMBERS OF THE CARD TO ANYONE.
