Richland Police catch fugitive; find drugs in car

RICHLAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Richland Police took a man with an outstanding felony into custody Monday. 

At 8:20 Monday morning, members of Richland Police Department FLEX unit located a Chevrolet Silverado at Hometown Quickie.

Officers immediately recognized the driver of the truck as 36-year-old Joshua Loftin. Loftin had an outstanding felony warrant through Simpson County Sheriff Department for fleeing and eluding officers.

Officers immediately arrested Loftin.

Thirty-four-year-old  April Newsome was a passenger in the truck and officers located an altered aerosol can that contained 38 grams of methamphetamine, and Hydrocodone pills and Xanax.

Officers also found digital scales, 17 grams of mushrooms, a small caliber gun and a glass pipe used to smoke narcotics inside of the truck.

Loftin will be charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession or sale of controlled substance enhanced (weapon) and possession of schedule 1 narcotic.

He is currently on parole with the MDOC.

Newsome is charged with possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of schedule 1 narcotic.
