JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A burn ban was just issued for Madison County. This will remain in effect for the next 30 days.

This brings the total county burn bans in Mississippi up to 40.

What does a burn ban mean? A burn ban means no outdoor burning of ANY KIND.

Campfires, bonfires, fire pits, fire rings, burn barrels, debris burning, field burning, are all prohibited.

Charcoal grills are allowed under burn bans. However, the coals and embers generated by a charcoal grill are of great concern.

Before removing or dumping the ashes of your charcoal grill, we ask that everyone please completely extinguish any hot embers with water. The ashes should be cold to the touch before disposal.
