CLINTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A 15-year-old girl was killed in a head-on collision on the Natchez Trace Parkway on Tuesday morning.

Madison County School District Superintendent McGehee confirms Ridgeland High School sophomore Zia Richardson was killed in the accident. Grief counselors have been at the school.

According to Clinton PIO Mark Jones, a pick-up truck and a Volvo collided. Another vehicle was also involved.

The wife of the pick-up driver says the Volvo was passing other vehicles when the collision happened.

We're being told that there were children in one or more of the cars, but we are not sure if any of them were injured. The Natchez Trace rangers are going to take over the investigation from this point on, although Clinton police responded to the wreck initially.

Drivers are advised to exit on Highway 49. The section of the Natchez Trace between Hwy 49 and Pinehaven Road is shut down at this time.
