One man arrested after deadly shooting in Columbus

An arrest has been made in a Friday night shooting in Columbus that left one person dead.

Twenty-five-year-old Eric Lamar Brewer, of Columbus, is charged with murder. According to police, Brewer knew the victim.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant identified the victim as 18-year-old Kwesi Kagekogel Hill of Columbus.

Officers responded to the shooting just after 8:30 p.m. Friday in the 1700 block of 4th Avenue South.

Police spokesman Joe Dillon said when officers arrived, Hill was gone.  Someone had taken him to Baptist Memorial Hospital - Golden Triangle where he was pronounced dead.

A Lowndes County sheriff's deputy later pulled over Brewer in his car in the area of Brooks Road. He was arrested, and a gun was taken from the vehicle.

Police have not provided a motive for the deadly shooting.
