JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A salon in Jackson is honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the best way they know - hosting a makeover day called Pretty Pink and Pampered.

Pretty Pink and Pampered gives women the chance to have their hair, makeup, and nails done, and also meet people who have been through similar situations.

"To know that you have people that really have that love and support, when you feel like you don't," said one breast cancer survivor. "This is the type of even that lets people know that."

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is filled with 5Ks and fundraisers, but Pure Illusions Hair Salon owner Shalonda Quinn decided she wanted to help in a different way.

"I'm a stylist, what we do is we make them beautiful," said Quinn. "You look good, you feel better."

Shalonda's grandmother had breast cancer, and so did a number of the customers at her salon.

She says just talking about it can help. "Some of them been 20 year survivors, some people just got it, and some of them don't know how to take it," Quinn added. "So once they mix and mingle with each other and tell their testimony, it always could help somebody else."

And guests at Pretty Pink and Pampered seemed to agree. "It's just a blessing to know that you think you're going through something, and someone else is going through something even worse than you," said one breast cancer survivor.

This is the event's second year, and this year there are 40 guests here. Next year they're hoping to get up that to 60.
