JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Fair officials announced a record turnout for the 2016 Mississippi State Fair.  733,151 fair goers attended this year's event, that number up four percent from the record in 2014 up 13 percent from last year.

Rick Reno, the Mississippi State Fair Commissioner, attributes the success of this year’s fair to the improvements that have been made.

The Midway featured 62 rides for the thrill seekers, an expanded kid-zone and Magician Kid Davies awed the crowd with his jaw dropping performances. Music lovers had an opportunity to engage in their interest with live concerts performed nightly in the Budweiser Pavilion. Artists included Travis Tritt, Boyz II Men, Alter Bridge, Frank Foster, Old Dominion and many more local performers.

The success of the Mississippi State Fair 2016 was not only from the attractions but the people that helped pull the event together.

“We would like to extend a special thanks to the many volunteers who help make the fair a success and the Jackson Police Department and the Hinds County Sheriff, Victor Mason, and his great staff of officers for providing a safe environment for all those who enjoyed the fair," Reno said. "The fair will continue to be a tradition in Mississippi."
