CONSIDER THIS: Pothole problems continue

Source: WLBT Source: WLBT

If you’ve driven around Jackson you’ve experienced the pothole epidemic. There are streets around the city that should be closed to traffic because of their condition.

Not only are the potholes causing extensive damage to vehicles, but paying to fix that damage costs the city a lot of money; money that could be used to offset a budget shortfall, or added to the budget to fix the streets.

This week WLBT Investigative Reporter C.J. LeMaster finds out how the city is handling these pothole challenges.

Consider This:

Crime is usually the first thing people mention when they discuss the challenges facing Jackson; quality of the streets, specifically potholes, follows quickly thereafter. The city has made some progress with a portion of streets, like Fortification and Capital, but there is so much more to do.

The neglect of fundamental resources impacts economic growth and creates a negative first impression. Until Jackson develops a realistic plan to fix its streets, and makes that a priority, you can count on few businesses relocating to the capital city and other businesses using the decay, and lack of action, as one more reason to move elsewhere.
