A small number of students took on a big job and exceed their expectations. Kindergarten through sixth graders at New Hope Christian School in Jackson collect canned goods and perishables each year for the needy.

It paid off in a big way this year with 200 kids piling up over 13 thousand cans of food. The food will be donated to Stewpot, Gateway and the 4C's in Clinton.

Kelli Hart, the Assistant Administrator said, "They learn about giving all the time, they just decided they wanted to go above and beyond what was asked this year."

"One or more of our children have raised over a thousand cans alone," said Beta Club sponsor Wanda McHarris.

The students participating in the can drive include members of the Junior Beta Club, National Elementary Honor Society, and Student Council.
