JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Some disgruntled citizens at Tuesday night's Jackson Public School District meeting called for the resignation of Superintendent Dr. Cedrick Gray and all seven board members.

Many of them said they are not happy with the district's performance on many levels.

They wanted to let board members and the superintendent know during the public comments portion of the meeting, however, they say they were not allowed to speak.

"Well, I was here tonight because I thought that the public would be allowed to speak out on issues and to ask questions but that did not happen," said Tiffany McGee. "So we will try again."

"I assure you that we apologize if someone felt as though they were overlooked," said Sherwin Johnson with JPS Public and Media Relations. "I can assure you that's not the case, but it is a process that we go by in terms of allowing public comments during board meetings."

Johnson says that process involves filling out and turning in a form, and your name will be called during the public comments portion of the meeting.

One man started a petition called, "Petition to terminate superintendent Dr. Cedric gray". It has 284 supporters so far.
