Jackson State students remember Devon Mannery

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

An emotional night on the campus of Jackson State University Thursday; classmates, fellow band members and friends remembered 20-year-old Devon Mannery.

Mannery was killed in a car accident Monday in Madison. His family, surrounded by a large crowd of students on Gibbs Green Plaza who wiped away tears, shared memories and celebrated his life.

Mannery was a member of the drum line for the Sonic Boom of the South.

"As soon as we got the news we knew we had to do something for Devon and we planned this vigil and everybody came out to support it and that's what it means to be a Tiger," said Kendall Bunch President of the Student Government Association. "When you come to Jackson State we love you and we love our Sonic Boom of the South."

Students shared special messages for the family on a giant poster with Mannery's image. They also released blue and white balloons in his memory.
