BYRAM, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Police in Byram believe two recent burglaries may have been committed by the same individuals.

"This is the neighborhood I grew up in," said Chief Luke Thompson. "The stuff that happens here, I take it personal."

Chief Thompson says he won't let crime take over his old neighborhood.

Last week a home was broken into in the Glenhaven neighborhood. Witnesses said they saw two black males running from the scene with an Xbox.

Another occurred off Turtle road, a short distance away.

"When instances are reported to us like we had 2 burglaries in a 24 hour time span, We move resources," added Thompson. "We start putting our patrols in those neighborhoods. A lot of it is people calling us."

Monday we learned there have been other burglaries in the area that weren't reported to police; like Christine Melton who had several hundred dollars worth of tools taken from her home.

"Could be somebody in this neighborhood because like I said, several different people and it's mainly the ones with open carports or garages that are open like I said," said Melton. "One lady told me it was the middle of the day."

Police say they continue to work to improve communication with residents, which they say is key in crime suppression.
