JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Mississippi Supreme Court has ruled against the Hinds County Board of Supervisors is a dispute with Circuit Judge Jeff Weill.

The supervisors appealed Judge Weill's decision not to recuse himself from deciding compensation for outside attorneys he appointed to do a job usually done by public defenders.

Judge Weill has been in conflict with the Hinds County Public Defenders office regarding several issues, including transferring cases to private attorneys, for more than a year.

The Board of Supervisors doesn't feel they should pay for the court appointing private council as public defenders in light of Hinds County funding of a full time public defender's office.

The board also doesn't believe Judge Weill should be deciding whether it is appropriate to pay these attorneys.

All State Supreme Court Justices met on the supervisor's petition to overturn Judge Weill's decision not to recuse himself and denied the request. All justices agreed with the decision.
