JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Mississippi Federation of Republican Women held a rally Thursday at the state Capitol. Polls vary in exact stats, but most show Trump slightly ahead in Mississippi, and the women at today's event aim to keep it that way.

"I'm definitely for Trump because I'm for his issues, and I believe in pro-life,"  Said Nancy McGee, a woman at the rally. "I believe in religious freedom. And I believe that's really being threatened today, and I think a lot of people feel that way about it, too."

Abortion, 2nd amendment rights, and Religious freedom are some of the issues uniting the women.

"They just don't know who you are," said Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant. "They just don't understand it, they can't comprehend your faith and your belief. But we're gonna show them what you can do."

"Right now it's extremely busy," said Jane MacArthur, President of the Jones County Republican Women said of her job lately. "The last two weeks before the campaign, I live with a telephone in one hand and a paper and pencil in the other, but it's a lot of fun."

The governor believes Independent voters will be key in this year's election.

"People who have been, I think, all but disenfranchised in the past, they don't like Republicans or Democrats," added Bryant. "And now they believe it's time to make a change, and they're gonna come out and vote and that's a huge population."

The Governor also says poll monitoring will be a big issue this year, to make sure the election goes smoothly and fairly.
