Many JSU supporters and alumni say they couldn't believe the news that Dr. Carolyn Meyers resigned and JSU's cash reserves had significantly dwindled in the last five years.

"I really didn't know about that until I got here," said Winifred Timmons. "But just to here other people talk about it is a disappointment."

"It was really a shocker to me because I really thought Jackson State was doing good with all the building they have been doing and the structures," said JSU supporter Dwight Crisler.

Now as JSU works to climb out the financial hole and the college board takes steps to begin a nationwide search to replace Myers, folks like Timmons say they want the new president to be financially savvy.

"We need someone in place that will be able to manage and budget in a way that it will help the school continue to grow and be productive and progress for many, many years to come," Timmons said.

Many say they also want a leader who has a heart for improving the college and students' educational experience

"We just want to see someone who is going to represent the kids," said Stephanie Towers. "If you represent good, you are going to do good."

Despite this tough time, JSU graduates say they'll keep the faith that things will get back on track, so the college can continue its legacy of success.
