JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson Police say the man wanted in connection with a shooting Thursday morning ,on Gaddis street that left one woman dead and another wounded, is now in custody.

JPD says  21-year-old Marsalis Townsend was arrested Friday afternoon by US Marshals at an undisclosed location.

Townsend is charged with murder, aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

Jackson police say the victim is 18-year-old Kristen Bennett. She and another victim, 19-year-old Wyvonia Bell, were shot just before noon on Thursday.

The women were in a white Pontiac Grand Prix when someone shot through the front windshield.

Bennett was in the passenger seat when she was killed after being shot multiple times. Police say Bell is now in stable condition.

Police say assault rifle shell casings were found on Dunbar Street. The women were on Gaddis Street by the time police arrived.

It's being reported that the victims were being followed by two other women, driving a silver car, just before the shooting happened.

Jackson police say this is the 55th homicide this year. Chief Vance said this ends Jackson's 29 day streak without a homicide.
