JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Many in the Capitol City are standing up to violence in their communities.

This move comes after Jackson's homicide number increases to 57 this year.

A rally was held today where those who have lost loved ones spoke out against the crime on the streets.

“This has got to stop before it starts and we are going to be the ones that have to stop it,” said one Jackson resident.

Fed up residents of Jackson expressed their frustration over the crimes committed in their communities day-by-day.

“All lives matter, not just black lives, white lives, mixed lives, everybody matters,” said another Jackson resident.

The family of deadly shooting victim Deswaund Bell called for the 'Stop the Violence' rally today.

Bell was gunned down a few days ago at a gas station on University Boulevard after an argument, bringing the homicide total in Jackson to 57.

“He was proud was young man, a proud father and a good dude," said John Knight. "He graduated from high school and had a rap career. He has his own little business here.”

As Bell's mother and other loved ones shed tears, they told this crowd they don't want to see another life taken due to unnecessary violence on the streets of Jackson, so it is time to take a stand.

“Try to live your life, man. That is why I stay on y'all." added Knight. "I am trying to run y'all or tell y'all what y'all need to do, but I want to see y'all live and prosper.”

Police need your help finding Bell’s suspected killer, 26-year-old Alex Dixon. If you know his whereabouts, you are urged to call Jackson Police Department.
