RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Boomer, the kangaroo that got out of his fence on Tuesday, has been found safe.

According to a Facebook post by the owner, the kangaroo named Boomer and several dogs got out of their owner's yard after someone opened the gates. The owner posted that Boomer was found safe at 3:45 Wednesday morning with the help of the Sheriff's Department.

They saw him near the area where he went missing.

The owner said the kangaroo ran straight to her husband when he saw him. Boomer suffers minor injuries but is home and back inside.

Rankin County Undersheriff Raymond Duke and other Rankin County Sheriff's Deputies began this search around 5:00 p.m. Tuesday.

They were called to Star Road near Highway 49. Deputies attempted to lasso and tranquilize the animal but were unsuccessful last night before he ran into the woods.

They worked tirelessly with the family to ensure that he made it home safe.

The family says they will be putting up extra surveillance and locks to ensure that the gate is not opened again.
