JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Church officials say it was a quick response from firefighters and a watchful eye from a maintenance worker that made sure a fire at Grace Inspirations church didn't get out of hand Monday morning.

The blaze broke out shortly after 11 am. It was so hot, it melted a hole in the building's siding.

Robert Williams, the building's maintenance man, was the first to notice it.

"I looked, I said my god the building's on fire, I went inside and come around to the door in the kitchen and when I got to the kitchen there's flames coming out," said Williams.

Once the smoke cleared, fire officials determined the blaze was accidental. Pastor Hollins is confident he can get the damage cleaned up for next week's Christmas program.

Firefighters used fans to clear out the smoke from the  House of Prayer Apostolic Outreach Ministries on Shellrock road.
Pastor Linda Palmer said the blaze left heavy damage in the church she's run for six years.

"It's tough but I believe god will do it again. I believe he will," said Pastor Linda Palmer.

Arson investigators determined it was an overheated surge protector that sparked the fire. Church officials are confident they will find the means to rebuild their house of worship.
