Ridgeland police give back to community in holiday spirit

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Ridgeland police want to show they do more than arrest people, that's why they are acting as Santa's elves for the holidays.

They are reaching out to the community helping those in need also enjoy Christmas.

The department received a $2,000 check from Woodmen Life to help provide Christmas meals and more to several families adopted by Ridgeland PD.

Officers also added some kids from Smith and Highland Elementary schools to the list.

"We're also asking the community, if you would like to donate some toys, we'll be taking those until December 20 to help us in the drive," Christy Daniels said, "Because we want to make sure that every child gets to experience Christmas."

You can drop off donations at CC's Coffee House, City Hall or the Ridgeland Police Department; all located on Highway 51.
