Holiday festivities often include alcohol and if you're planning to consume it, Hinds County Sheriff Victor Mason has a message for you: Don't drive your vehicle, you WILL be arrested.
Deputies are taking part in the nationwide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign and Sheriff Mason says it's important that YOU be involved in the effort, also.
"It's very important, because we can't be everywhere at one time," said Sheriff Mason. "So we're urging people that if you see someone that you believe that is impaired, have been drinking, changing lanes erratically, call us, call us, please, because we have to get that person off the street."
Some sobering statistics from the sheriff: Since January, in Hinds County, 18 alcohol-related crashes, 10 people killed; 2 of those fatalities over the Thanksgiving holiday.
Additionally, the DUI unit has made 643 DUI arrests.
Hinds County leads the state in unrestrained and alcohol-related crashes.
