MADISON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Madison County man is recovering in the hospital after being rescued from under his vehicle. The wreck happened at Loring Road near Velma Jackson High School.

"I heard a loud noise and I got in my vehicle to see what was going on," said neighbor Curtis Evans. "It sounded like someone hitting a tree."

Monday afternoon's crash in the Camden Community was loud enough to send neighbors rushing to Loring Road.  Curtis Evans says the driver is his friend and church member.

“It looked real bad cause he was pinned on the vehicle and it wasn't anything we can do,” added Evans.

According to the Madison County Sheriff's Department, the driver lost control of the vehicle and T-boned a tree.

“I was working and they paged it out and said there was a vehicle on top somebody,” said Camden volunteer firefighter Robert Gray.

Gray was one of many first responders who assisted.

“I was thinking I don't want to see a dead body," said Gray. "But I feel good to help a person out.”

Gray said it took emergency workers at least a half hour to extract the man from the mangled truck.

“Anytime you have to use the Jaws of Life it is a bad situation," added Gray. "When the truck flipped, I guess it must have thrown him out the window because it flipped on the driver side.”

Now neighbors, friends, and family are praying for the driver's speedy recovery.

“Everybody is praying,” said Evans.

“He is very lucky," said Gray. "I am going to rephrase that, he is blessed to be alive.”
