JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson public schools need more teachers That's part of the message from Interim Superintendent Dr. Freddrick Murray to Jackson city council members in a status update Thursday.

Council members asked Murray questions about improvements being made since the district has been put on probation with an "F" status.

He advised them of his priorities, the challenges the district faces; even mentioned the possibility of adjusting high school attendance hours to address late bus concerns.

"And I think it went well. I learned a lot about what they're hearing," said Dr. Murray. "We were able to answer some of the questions and, more importantly, to tell them where we are, giving the direction so that they can go back and make informed; give informed information to citizens in their wards."

Murray says the district is looking to fill 50 or more vacancies, with more expected in the coming year.

That's why there's a job fair from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the central office on South State Street Saturday, February 18th.

There is even a $2,500 signing bonus!
