JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Three On Your Side has learned that the man accused of murder-for-hire offers and corruption in Canton also worked for Jackson Public Schools as a substitute principal.

JPS spokesperson Sherwin Johnson confirmed Cleveland Anderson worked at Van Winkle Elementary School but is no longer with the district.

Anderson, who also serves as the chairman of the Canton Public Utilities board, had been accused by former Madison County engineer Rudy Warnock of offering to kill Madison Mayor Mary Hawkins-Butler and Madison County Journal reporter Michael Simmons.

Anderson's name disappeared from the elementary school's website one day after the affidavit became public.

Johnson would not say when Anderson left the district, instead telling us JPS does not comment on personnel matters.

Anderson has not responded to repeated requests for comment on the allegations.
