You wouldn't expect a 6th grader to be writing about things like diversification and the capital markets, but Jillian LaRosa is not your typical 6th grader.
Tuesday morning, the Long Beach middle school student won first place in the state for her entry into the annual InvestWrite Competition sponsored by the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association or SIFMA.
She was honored in a surprise ceremony at Mississippi College.
"It was about the virtual reality and augmentary reality and how it's changing the world and stuff and how they're using it in car technology and other technologies," said Jillian.
"I think this is a great program," said Tara Meleones, her teacher at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Elementary School. "I hope other schools will take advantage of it. It's great for our kids and it's great for our future."
The SIFMA Foundation is dedicated to fostering knowledge and understanding of the financial markets for individuals of all backgrounds, with a focus on youth.
We asked LaRosa if she's planning on a career in finance. She said..."nope"...she wants to be a veterinarian.
