VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The City of Vicksburg remains under a boil water notice following an outage and repairs to a 36-inch water line.

While many are happy water is flowing, some residents are demanding answers from the city and about a permanent fix.

"Why did this happen?" said Debra Hughes. "Is this gonna happen again?"

Hughes is one of the Vicksburg residents angry about the water outage and looking for answers.

Water began flowing at her Rhodes Drive home on Saturday.

"So how long is this band aid gonna hold? Hughes inquired. "I'm pretty sure the fix that they have is not gonna hold that much longer, especially with the pressure of the water. I mean look how high the water is right now."

A valve blew on the 36-inch water line that supplies water to the city.

Friday, repairs were made and the water treatment plant resumed operations.

Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs said a plan has been in the works for a year to build an alternate water line out of the flood zone.

It will be constructed along railroad tracks in front of the water treatment plant.

Officials say designs for the new line are due next Friday.

After bidding, the project is expected to be completed next March.
