MDOC searching for state inmate who escaped in Jackson

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Mississippi Department of Corrections is searching for a state inmate who escaped in downtown Jackson Thursday. Twenty-four-year-old Melody Diana Maher escaped from the Mississippi Prison Industries location on North State Street.

Maher was last seen doing yard work around 11:15 a.m. at the facility.  She is currently housed at the Flowood Community Center. 

Maher is in prison for two drug convictions in DeSoto County.  She was sentenced on January 18, 2016 for controlled substance within a facility and on January 19, 2016 for cocaine possession. Maher is serving 15 years.
