Delta State is making their 11th appearance in the College World Series. The Statesmen are ranked #1 in the Collegiate Baseball Division 2 poll. But the one number that matters most is their attempt for their 2nd national championship.

The 44-11 Statesmen travel to Texas this weekend. DSU has racked up some more honors on the road to Grand Prairie. The National College Baseball Writers Association named Mike Kinnison the National Coach of the Year. Ferriss finalist Zack Shannon is the NCBWA National Player of the Year.

Both were candid about what it'll take to bring home a national title.

Kinnison: "Met with our team yesterday. I told them: This isn't a situation where we call anybody up from the minors. This isn't a situation where we trade an outfielder for another pitcher. Take a look around this room, this is what we've got. This is the group that'll get it done for us. We just have to figure it out, we just have to figure out how to make it work."

Shannon: "Just being consistent. Gotta show up every day, everybody has to play their best. We can't always expect the bats to score 15-20 runs a game. We know that's not going to happen. But we got to be there defensively as consistent as we can. And hopefully on the mound, Seth has been super consistent for us all year, Trey has been great for us. We lost Corey but we need somebody to step up for us. I think we're ready though."

Delta State opens the CWS Saturday at 7:00pm against Lindenwood (MO). You can watch and track the Statesmen here: http://angelosports.com/sports/2017/5/16/2017-division-ii-college-baseball-world-series.aspx
