JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Saturday night, the community came together to help raise money for Stewpot ministries in Jackson and one businessman is hoping to give thousands to the Stewpot mission.

The purpose is to raise money for Stewpot Community Services.

Deep rooted in the Capital City community, Stewpot has a long standing mission to serve men, women and children. Serving others through faith by providing hot meals, groceries, shelter, clothing and much more. Now Jackson businessman Steven James is giving back to the non-profit.

"Old school party concept," said Steven James. "We will have music from the 70's, 80's and 90's. Also, a little game room action."

The event goal is to raise at least $5,000 to hand over to Stewpot leaders.

James said, with the network of facilities Stewpot is running, it's important the community stands behind the organization that is helping community members in Jackson get back on their feet and live an independent life.

"I've been working with Stewpot for about seven years and they do some great things in the City of Jackson," explained James. "They have a homeless shelter and do stuff with domestic violence. A lot of different programs where they are helping kids."

Live music, food and games took over the Saturday night atmosphere.

James said this is a time community members can get involved and help give back.

A portion of the proceeds from the gala happening inside Metro Center Mall's Next Level went to Stewpot.
