BROOKHAVEN, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Monday morning, Vincent Mitchell stood by as crews cleaned his bullet-riddled home a day after four were murdered inside.

"We thought he was going to go with the the deputy and he produced a weapon and he started shooting," said Mitchell.

Vincent Mitchell survived the shooting, his home now riddled with bullets, but his heart bleeds for his wife of 20 years Barbara Mitchell, and her daughter Tocarra May, who were gunned down, along with Barbara's sister, Brenda, in their Lee Drive home.

His daughter, Godbolt's wife, and their two kids narrowly escaped, along with two of his own kids.

"They ran out of the house and hid in one of the vehicles in the yard. that's a miracle," added Walker. " I just promise God they're still here but they have to deal with they lost their mother in this."

Mitchell says he believes Godbolt intended to kill everyone in the house.  He says he often saw friction in Godbolt's marriage but he never believed he was capable of the violence he displayed Sunday. He says all women in abusive relationships should get out before it's too late.

"If a man puts his hands on you just get out cause eventually, someone is going to get hurt.  This here I witnessed what could happen the end of a domestic violence.  If I could save one person's life, just take a look at this," said Mitchell.
