Brookhaven High is mourning the loss of a promising athlete. Jordan Blackwell was one of 8 victims in this past weekend's shooting spree.
The junior shined on the gridiron for the Panthers. Blackwell led Ole Brook with 86 tackles in 2016. Colleges were interested in the linebacker, JSU and Central Arkansas were some of the schools that offered him.
Head coach Tommy Clopton said Jordan was a special player.
"Jordan is one of those guys that God puts here to challenge you, to teach you. God used him in so many different ways. He was a fierce competitor. As a young man, he had so much charisma that's not common for people to have. He was a leader for our team on the field. Everyone that ever knew him was touched by him in some way, shape, form, or fashion. He's going to be missed for a long time."
Clopton added that he had that it factor. "When the lights came on, there wasn't a position on the field that he couldn't play. He was the epitome of a team guy when it came to the effort. His teammates knew that they didn't have to question him on Friday nights when the lights were on. He was going to give them everything he had and then some."
