Teen in critical condition after accidental shooting

Family members say their 18-year-old loved one was shot in the abdomen with an assault rifle here at a home in south Jackson Wednesday afternoon.

An 18-year-old is in critical condition. Police are not releasing his name. The shooting happened on Shadowlawn Drive in Jackson.

Three on your side caught up with his older brother Jacob Dotson as he rushed to the hospital after the shooting.  

“I got a phone call that my little brother got shot. I thought he was playing because he didn't sound serious, but he got shot. Police say it went right through him,” said the teen’s older brother Jacob Dotson. I was shocked. I didn't believe it when I heard it. When they called me I didn't know what to say, so I came on by. I was in the house cleaning up his blood,”

Police say the teen and some friends may have been playing with the gun when it accidentally went off, but all that is still under investigation.

“As long as he is living, it is a lesson learned. I told him don't take pictures with it, don’t let anyone know it is in the house. I have three and he only knows about that one and that is for emergencies unless someone is breaking in, but him and his friend playing with. But that's all I can't say nothing else,” added Dotson.

Two people have been detained for questioning.
