YAZOO CITY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Yazoo County man remains in jail on a $1 million bond after he allegedly assaulted and raped a woman, kidnapped her and her three-year-old child and attacked an elderly man.

Calvin May, Jr. is being held at the Yazoo County Sheriff's Department and is facing multiple charges.

The incident occurred Sunday, May 21 when May went looking for his live-in girlfriend. She had fled their home in fear, according to investigators.

There have been reports of multiple instances of domestic violence according to Chief Investigator Terry Gann.

During this incident, authorities say May tracked the woman to a home in Eden. That's where she fled for safety at an elderly co-worker's home. He allegedly dragged the woman out, then beat her in front of her three-year-old child.

The unidentified homeowner attempted to stop May, but was overcome and then also beaten. May allegedly forced the woman into his vehicle with her child.

At some point, Gann said she was raped.

When May stopped at a store for cigarettes the victim took off in the car and went directly to the Yazoo Police Department.

May faces two counts of aggravated assault, kidnapping, burglary and rape in the criminal case.

Authorities say this is an ongoing investigation.
