LINCOLN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Lincoln County community is coming together to honor fallen officer William Durr.

At Select Signs and More in Brookhaven, a fundraiser is being organized in his name.

Decals with his patrol numbers from the Police Department and the Sheriff's Departments where he served are being given away for donations.

The stickers bear his last name, and the saying, 'A hero remembered lives forever'. All proceeds will go to the Durr family.

Residents began picking up the decals early Wednesday morning.

"To show our support not only for the family of the tragedy but also of our law enforcement," said Michelle Lofton. "They sacrifice so much and they put their lives in danger every day going out to a single call. I feel that's very important."

Another memorial is growing on Highway 51 in Bogue Chitto. There someone placed a cross and eight flags at half staff, for each one of the victims.

Residents say they are working to provide assistance for all of those involved.
