Way Back Wednesday: Scott Berry reflects on 2003 NCAA Regional in Hattiesburg

The countdown continues to the Hattiesburg Regional. Southern Miss welcomes Mississippi State, South Alabama, and Illinois-Chicago to Pete Taylor Park.

This weekend will mark the first time USM has hosted NCAA Tournament games since 2003. Current head coach Scott Berry was the pitching coach then under Corky Palmer. Berry reflected on the Golden Eagles regional run 14 years ago.

"You know, it was a great time, our city embraced it. Our community embraced it. We had a great field, we had Baylor in here, eventually beat us to win that regional. I think they were paired with LSU. I remember back in '03, honestly, it was like we were kinda just happy being there, because we had never been there before. And it kinda caught us by surprise a little bit. We tried to battle back out of it, but we weren't able to. We've come a long way as a program since '03. Certainly that was a great time and that was the foundation builder for what we're seeing now."
