JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Motorists in Mississippi are driving on rough roads and dodging potholes and it's costing them almost $3 billion according to TRIP,  a national non-profit research group.

TRIP says nearly two out of every three miles of Mississippi's major urban roads are either poor or mediocre condition.

According to Carolyn Kelly with the TRIP Research Group, "Without additional transportation funding at the local, state and federal level Mississippi's transportation system will continue to deteriorate and it will become more congested stifling economic growth and progress here in the state.

The release comes just 5 days before a special session called by the governor to consider funding for the Mississippi Department of Transportation, the Attorney General's office.
