Mississippi State managing arms in Hattiesburg Regional

Mississippi State's biggest downfall this season is a lack of depth on the mound, throwing nearly every arm possible. But head coach Andy Cannizaro isn't worried entering the regional. He's throwing Cole Gordon Friday against South Alabama, and saving ace Konnor Pilkington for Saturday.

Cole all business as the Bulldogs begin NCAA play. "They just kinda came up to me and said you're throwing Friday. And I said, alright. It's just one of those things. We gotta win three as it is anyway, but we're going to start with Game 1 tomorrow and that's going to be the most important one."

Brent Rooker was named National Player of the Year today by Collegiate Baseball. He feels Cole can keep his momentum going after throwing 7 shutout innings against Florida in the SEC Tournament.

"I have all the confidence in the world with Cole Gordon tomorrow. First of all, he's thrown as well as anybody in the country has the past 2 or 3 times out. So we're really comfortable with going to the mound and getting the ball. Konnor throwing game 2 no matter who it's against, we're really comfortable with that. I really like our chances with the guys we have on the mound."

The Hattiesburg Regional starts Friday at Pete Taylor Park.
