JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson Police Department detectives investigating an alleged rape and kidnapping in West Jackson.

This comes just one day after the department releases stats on rapes in the Capital CIty.

One woman said, "I'm shocked. That's just awful."

Another woman added, "I would freak out if something like that happened to me. I don't know what I would do."

Women in west Jackson on high alert after Jackson Police told 3 On Your Side a woman was walking near Raymond Road and Valley Street around 1:15 Friday morning when she was forced to get inside a car.

One woman said, "This area is already scary because it's west Jackson. Every woman should have a pistol or pepper spray on them at all times. We are living in a bad, cold world."

According to JPD, the victim was taken to another location where she was raped.
Jackson Police said there are 51 rapes this year compared to 34 this time last year. That's an increase of 50 percent.

A concerned woman said, "Because we are women we can't hold up to a man. If it's one man we can't, especially if it's two. Someone snatches you in the car, you have no win against them."

Police said the victim was thrown out on Lynch Street around 3:00 Friday morning then taken to a local hospital and police were notified.

Right now police do not have a description of the alleged attacker.
