JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Jackson Fire Department was on the scene of a fire on the corner of Ludlow and Pillars Court early Saturday morning.

Firefighters found the body of 63-year-old Sullivan Camphor inside the house.

"I saw the house, and I was like, 'Oh my god, what happened?' And I was really concerned about if he was in there, because he's usually at home," said Yolanda Canada, one of Camphor's neighbors. "And then the word circled around the neighborhood that he was there and that he did pass, and we are so sad to hear that, because no one should die like that. We are praying for his family."

Christmas lights still hang on the house, and purple gloves from JPD detectives litter the front yard.

Neighbors say Camphor had only lived in the house for a few months - most said they only exchanged quick greetings with him, but never had the chance to get to know him well.

"I know there's a couple - like three little boys that always walked up the street and came over there. I think those were his grandkids, and they loved their granddaddy, and he spent a lot of time with them. So, he had to be a family man, from what I knew about him," said Canada.

Chief Cleotha Sanders said Jackson Fire Investigators and the Jackson Police Department are investigating.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
