In this edition of FFF we talk Brees' new contract, a wonder goal for Jesuit, and Pop's Poboys in Lafayette.
The Saints met with Drew Brees' agent, Tom Condon, Thursday night at the Combine to begin negotiations for a new contract. We knew all along this would get done. Coach Payton alluded to this Thursday afternoon.
"Both Tom (Condon) and Mickey, there's some patience and understanding," said Payton on Thursday. "It might be tomorrow night's dinner at St. Elmo's. I don't think about it much because I know it is going to get done, and I think Drew feels the same way, and I think it will be done sooner than later. Then it'll be one less item for everybody to talk about. But nonetheless, I don't think there's anything that has slowed it down. There's not one reason why it hasn't gotten done other than probably Mickey and Tom have done other things and I'm sure will meet here."
Brees is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on March 14, but it will never get that late. The big question is how many years, and how much money.
I believe it's a one or two-year deal. With Brees making $20-25 million annually. This will not kill the Saints cap, so they can grab a few other needs.
The reason I love my job so much, is I really don't know what's going to happen on any given day. Sporting events have a way of surprising you, or send you into awe without notice. This was the case when I covered St. Paul's-Jesuit in the Division I state championship game.
The game appeared to be over. St. Paul's was up 1-0, with less than a minute to go in the contest. But then Chris Tadros changed everything. His wonder-strike not only sent the match to OT, but the Jays would go on to win the title. It was easily one of the greatest goals I witnessed in my lifetime.
"Soon as I hit it, I just knew it. Our whole team had that sweat, and the tears, and the belief we were going to win this game. As soon as I hit it, I knew it was going in," said Jesuit sophomore Chris Tadros.

I live for these moments, and expect another one before you know it.
While in Lafayette, I got the great honor of checking out Pop's Poboys. If I had to sum it up my experience in one word, legendary. I got two half poboys, and they were both fantastic.
I chose the Banh Banh Shrimp: Grilled marinated shrimp, chili garlic mayo, pickled carrots, cucumber, cilantro. Oh my, soo good. Also, ordered the Lenten Tarantino: New Orleans style BBQ shrimp tucked into our toasty Langlinais French bread dressed with blue plate mayo, fresh arugula, and yellow onion. I'm drooling just writing this.
Plus, they do a craft cocktail menu, and an array of local beers. I might go back, even if work isn't on the menu.
